“Greener Every Week” is my ongoing series in which I do one (cheap, easy) thing every week to make my home or lifestyle more healthy & eco-friendly.
Every time we sat down to dinner, my husband and I used to each grab a paper towel to wipe our hands or any spills during the meal. But in the interest of keeping things fancy around here (and, ok, fine, not wasting paper and being mean to the planet) we recently switched to linen napkins. I recommend it!
I just bought a pack of eight on sale at Cost Plus World Market, but you can of course get them lots of places. I keep them folded in a stack right next to the plates so it’s really easy to just grab one as dinner is served.
(Yes, I keep my dishes in a drawer, partly because my kitchen has very little overhead cupboard space and partly because it’s awesome and convenient – if you have more drawers than cupboards give it a try.) But anyway, I was talking about napkins. Which I keep next to the dishes, but you could also keep in a pretty basket on your countertop, or in the pantry next to the condiments, or wherever is convenient for you. Since I’m sure you’ve all switched to using microfiber cloths by now, you can then toss the used napkins in the bucket with the dirty cloths and wash them all together, making this whole process quick and painless. And, of course, classy.
